What is Digital Transfer Printing (DTF)
In digital transfer printing (DTF = Direct-to-Film), the design is first digitally printed onto a special film, which is then sprinkled with an adhesive powder and heated to fix the design. The design is subsequently transferred to the textile using heat and pressure. This printing method is particularly suitable for sturdier materials such as bags, caps, or different textile fabrics like merino wool or polyester
Due to its highly durable and long-lasting print results, digital transfer printing is considered one of the more robust printing methods. The film used offers a wide variety of printable options.
Minimum Requirements for DTF (File Handling)
- Image resolution of at least 300 dpi
- Only transparent backgrounds, no semi-transparencies
- Line thickness of at least 1 mm
Advantages
- High level of detail and opacity
- Brilliant colors and high material versatility
- Extremely durable and long-lasting
Disadvantages
- Print is tangible to the touch
- Not suitable for large print areas (e.g., breathable textiles lose functionality in printed areas - smaller print sizes are recommended here)
Best Suited For
- Caps, bags, merino products, and polo shirts
