QR codes on textiles
🧩 Can a QR code really be scanned on textiles?
Yes, a QR code can be printed on textiles without any problems – provided that certain requirements are met. With the right printing process and design, a permanently scannable code is no problem.
📏 What is the minimum size for a QR code on textiles?
For reliable scanning, we recommend a minimum size of 3 x 3 cm. Codes containing a lot of data (e.g. long URLs or vCards) should be larger.
📐 What design specifications do I need to consider?
To ensure that your QR code is recognised correctly, please note the following:
- High contrast: Dark code on a light background (e.g. black on white).
- No colour gradients or patterns in the code area.
- Sufficient distance from text or design: There needs to be a ‘quiet zone’ of about 4 mm (at least 4 modules wide) around the code.
- Square shape: Do not stretch or distort.
🧵 Which printing process is best suited for QR codes?
For razor-sharp QR codes on textiles, we recommend the following processes:
| Printing process | Suitability for QR codes | Note |
|---|---|---|
| DTF (Direct-to-Film) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Highly precise, ideal for QR codes of any size. |
| Screen Printing | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ☆ | Perfect for larger print runs. High print sharpness. |
| Sublimation Printing | ⭐⭐⭐ ☆ ☆ | Only for polyester, but easy to scan on light-coloured fabric. |
| DTG (Direct-to-Garment) | ⭐⭐ ☆ ☆ ☆ | Works, but only with simple codes on cotton. |
📱 Can I just use any QR code?
You can use any QR code you like, but it should be as simple as possible (e.g. short URLs). Avoid complex codes with lots of small modules, as these are more difficult to print and scan.
